About Us

The beliefs Quakerism were founded upon as a Christian sect in the 17th century are still relevant today, and have been further enriched by the experience and language of seekers from diverse religious faiths who have found a spiritual home with Quakers.

Quakers have no creed, but Quakers believe that:

  • There is that of God in every person. As a consequence, all life is sacred and interconnected. We look for the Divine in every person we meet. We embrace our diversity.

  • All people can have a direct experience of the Divine. We have many ways of  naming our experience. Some of them are God, Christ, Spirit, Inward Teacher, Inward Light, and Truth, among others.

  • By whatever name, this experience of the Divine is universal, ongoing and available to everyone.

  • We try to live out our convictions in our actions every day.

  • Our guiding principle is love.

“Let your life speak.”

- Quaker saying

What Do  Quakers Value?

“Testimonies” are what Quakers call the ways we have found to live and act based on our beliefs. The testimonies are often referred to as S P I C E S. As a group, we find that listening to God leads to the following:

  • Simplicity: focusing on what is truly important and letting other things fall away.

  • Peace: seeking justice and healing for all people; taking away the causes of war in the ways we live.

  • Integrity: living as people who act on what we believe, tell the truth, and do what we say we will do. Speaking truth to power.

  • Community: supporting one another in our faith journeys and in times of joy and sorrow; sharing with and caring for each other.

  • Equality: treating everyone, everywhere, as equally precious; recognizing that everyone has gifts to share.

  • Stewardship for the earth: valuing and respecting all creation; using only our fair share of the earth’s resources; working for policies that protect the planet.
